Kelly Clarkson has "no regrets" about walking away from her marriage to Brandon Blackstock a source close to the singer tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“She is doing really well," the insider said. "She is happy that she left L.A. for N.Y. She has the primary custody of the kids and is a great mom."

They added that "although she loves working, the kids are her world," and "she is very hands-on and fun."

The source continued: "The divorce was difficult, but she recovered quickly and has no regrets."

The pop star, 41, and Blackstock, 47, were married for nearly seven years before splitting in June 2020.

The former couple got engaged in December 2012 and wed the following October. They welcomed two children during their marriage: daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7. (Blackstock is also father to son Seth and daughter Savannah from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.)

Clarkson filed for divorce from the music manager in 2020, which was finalized two years later.

Speaking to PEOPLE exclusively in January 2024, the "Because of You" singer called her divorce from Blackstock "extraordinarily hard."

"You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming," she said, while referencing her latest album Chemistry.

On March 15, four months after a California labor commissioner ruled that Clarkson's ex-husband owed her $2.6 million in past commissions for overstepping his legal limits as her manager, she filed new documents claiming he may actually owe her much more.

The "Stronger" artist filed documents in Los Angeles saying Blackstock — who served as Clarkson’s manager from 2017 to 2020, the same year she filed for divorce after seven years of marriage — has been violating state labor rules since 2007, when she entered into an oral agreement with Starstruck Management, the company his father Narvel Blackstock founded in 1988.

Because the previous judgment from November only went back to 2017, Clarkson’s new documents, which were obtained by PEOPLE, ask for a “full and complete accounting from Starstruck of all monies received by Starstruck, directly or indirectly, in connection with any and all contracts, employment, or engagements pertaining in any way to the personal services of [Clarkson],” including commissions, fees, profits, advances and producing fees.

Attorneys for Blackstock did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
