Kamloops flash flooding victims to get financial assistance

The B.C. government says that disaster financial assistance is available to people who may have been affected by the flash flood in Kamloops earlier this week.

The assistance is available to home owners, tenants, small-business owners, farmers, charitable organizations and local-government bodies who were unable to obtain insurance to cover disaster-related losses.

The assistance would cover each accepted claim at 80 per cent of the amount of total eligible damage that exceeds $1,000, to a maximum claim of $300,000.

Applications must be submitted to Emergency Management BC by September 29.

The City of Kamloops rescinded a state of local emergency and evacuation order at 6 p.m. PT on Wednesday, following flash flooding in the Westsyde neighbourhood a day earlier.

The order has also been lifted for people who live at the Oakdale Mobile Home Park.
