YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: As was first sussed out by the ever-vigilant kids at Curbed, Julianne Moore and Bart Freundlich have their pleasantly understated but decidedly stylish, luxuriously fitted and — as far as this property gossip is concerned — pretty-darn-perfect pond-front cottage in the Hamptons up for sale with a not especially modest $3.495 million price tag. Property records show the ginger-haired soap actress turned Oscar-winning movie star and her talented but less lauded director-writer-producer husband purchased the scenic, 0.69-acre spread on the scenic shore of Montauk’s Fort Pond over the summer of 2007 for $1.05 million.

As was done with their chic and snazzy Manhattan townhouse and the perfectly photogenic duplex loft they lived in before that, we assume the approximately 1,000-square-foot, shingled bungalow was given its organically modern revamp by Mister Freundlich’s accomplished architect brother, Oliver Freundlich, which includes perfectly calibrated cottage elements such as custom wood-paneled walls, rustic wide-plank wood floors, and classic six-over-six sash windows. The pond-view living/dining room features a vaulted ceiling, a massive brick fireplace, and a spare but tactile mix of wicker, wood and leather furnishings while the eat-in kitchen, open to the living/dining room, is simple and functionally chic with Shaker-style lower cabinets, open shelves for dishware display, high-grade stainless steel appliances, and thick butcher block counter tops. All three bedrooms are fairly small and sparely furnished, and the residence’s surprisingly spacious and lone bathroom has deluxe black and white checkerboard marble floors, a claw-footed tub, and separate tiled shower stall. A stone-floored screened porch off the living/dining room, unquestionably the sweetest spot to watch the summer sun rise from the east-facing property, opens to a vast sweep of lawn that stretches down to the pond’s edge and, set off to the side of the house where it also benefits from a long view over the pond, a dark-bottom swimming pool is joined by a shingled pool house with outdoor shower and trellised poolside terrace.

The unfairly comely couple, savvy connoisseurs of collectible 20^th-century furniture and contemporary art, live primarily in downtown New York City, where they own a quite petite if well-appointed, fifth-floor walk-up studio apartment in the far West Village that was purchased in early 2006 for $365,000 and that came up for sale in 2010 and again in 2011 at a variety of prices from $375,000 to $415,000. Of course, the Freundlich-Moores, parents to two, don’t live in an itty-bitty studio apartment but rather an exquisitely crafted and impeccably turned out turn-of-the-20^th-century West Village townhouse that they picked up in April 2003 for $3.5 million, extensively remodeled, had photographed for the prestigious “World of Interiors” magazine in 2006, and unsuccessfully attempted to sell in 2009/2010 and again in 2011, first at $11,995,000 and later at $12.5 million.
