Yahoo Finance Julia Roberts And George Clooney Explain Why They Never Dated, And It's Totally Understandable
George Clooney and Julia Roberts have shared details about their friendship, and explained why they never dated each other.
Ahead of the release of their new film, romance comedy Ticket to Paradise, Roberts, 54, and Clooney, 61, had a sit-down interview with Access Hollywood, which aired on Wednesday.
During the interview the Oscar-winning co-stars spoke about their lasting connection, including their first impressions of each other, at which point Clooney said Roberts 'made me laugh', and she described him as 'gentle'.
Clooney then gushed about Roberts' kindness' and she spoke fondly of his 'fortitude'.
Host Kit Hoover then asked a question myriad fans have been dying to know over the years: 'Did you ever have a no-dating policy back in the day... Years and years ago before you were ever in a relationship?'
Roberts replied: 'To not date each other? I don't think we needed to state it!'
Clooney, who is married to international law and human rights barrister Amal Clooney, then delved into why they never took things to 'a different level'.
He shared: 'Julia was always in a relationship, or I was in a relationship. And we were fast friends right away. So it was nothing, but it's been nothing but fun for us. So, I don't think that was ever really a thing.'
In the pair's latest film, they play a divorced couple who travel to Bali together to stop their daughter repeating their mistakes from 25 years ago.
Prior to this, they starred in blockbuster hits such as Ocean's Eleven, Money Monster and August: Osage County.
In December 2021, Roberts gatecrashed Clooney's interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, to a sublime reaction from the crowd.
During the father-of-two's conversation on the talk show to discuss film Tender Bar, the Pretty Woman star was seen scooting over to Clooney in her chair with a seemingly intentional sombre face, while wearing a pair of dark sunglasses.
Appearing to be in complete shock, host Kimmel said: 'Oh my goodness, wow. Holy moly.
'George, I don't know if you're aware of this, but there's a woman sitting next to you,' Kimmel responded.
Clooney then mirrored Roberts' blank facial expression, suggesting he had no idea what Kimmel was referring to. Kimmel then said: 'Maybe I hallucinated that. It looked like Julia Roberts though.'
Clooney's child co-star in Tender Bar, Daniel Ranieri, also appeared on the show. Following Roberts' appearance, Kimmel asked: 'Hey, Daniel, have you ever seen Pretty Woman?'
Ranieri innocently replied: 'No.'
'Oh, you're gonna love it,' Kimmel responded.
Roberts, whose other acclaimed movies include Runaway Bride, Notting Hill and My Best Friend’s Wedding, is married to cinematographer Daniel Moder. They share three teenage children together, twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 17, and Henry, 15.
Speaking of her marriage with Oprah for Harper's Bazaar in 2018, Roberts said: 'I’m so proud of my marriage. We just celebrated being married for 16 years this Fourth of July, and there’s so much happiness wrapped up in what we’ve found together.'
Meanwhile, Clooney met Amal through a mutual friend in 2013 and married her the following year in Italy. They welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in 2017.
He's shared many sentiments about his wife, such as when he appeared on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in 2018 and gushed: 'I met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for.'
