John Lloyd Cruz gets double nominations at Gawad Urian

18 May - After losing the Best Actor award at the Metro Manila Film Festival last year, John Lloyd Cruz is set to compete for the Best Actor title again at this year's Gawad Urian Awards, and this time he has two representative films to increase his chances.

As reported on ABS-CBN News, the actor has been nominated in the category for his role in Erik Matti's "Honor Thy Father", as well as Cathy Garcia-Molina's "A Second Chance".

The actor will be facing a tough competition, coming from the critically acclaimed John Arcilla ("Heneral Luna"), Ricky Davao ("Dayang Asu"), Dennis Trillo ("Felix Manalo"), Sid Lucero ("Apocalypse Childs'), as well as Jericho Rosales, who previously beat Cruz to win the MMFF Best Actor for his role in "Walang Forever".

At the same time, Cruz's movie "Honor Thy Father" is also leading the nominations along with biopic "Heneral Luna" with nine nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Erik Matti and Jerrold Tarog, respectively.

The 39th Gawad Urian Awards will be held on 21 June at the Kia Theatre.
