John Lloyd Cruz excited for Cinephile nomination

26 Jan – Although he has been away from showbiz for a few months now, John Lloyd Cruz is still very much excited upon finding out that he has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the International Cinephile Society.

As reported on ABS-CBN, the actor, who spoke about the nomination that he got for his role in Lav Diaz's "Ang Babaeng Humayo", stated that he is most excited about being nominated alongside multiple award-winning actor, Daniel Day-Lewis - even if they are competing in different categories.

"I think this is the closest I'm going to get to Daniel Day-Lewis. Utterly blew my mind and profoundly humbling," he said.

Day-Lewis is nominated in the Best Actor category for his performance in "Phantom Thread".

"I am truly honoured by the nomination. I feel like I already won something by reading my name alongside such important names in filmmaking. But awards and recognition are just mere celebrations of taste and execution," Cruz added.

He also posted the nomination list on Instagram, and wrote, "Never in my wildest dreams. When I read Daniel Day-Lewis written in his category, I said [to myself] I wanna win."

Cruz will be facing tough competition from many worthy contenders including Hollywood actors Willem Dafoe, Barry Keoghan, and Armie Hammer.
