Jay-Z, Oprah and...Kevin Hart? Comedian's journey from stand-up to superstar

Kevin Hart has become a bankable star for Hollywood over the past several years. According to the recent Sony hacks he is pulling in $3 million per picture, and that's only a small portion of his income. His comedy tours have been wildly successful to boot.

Kevin Hart is commanding at least $3 million a picture and even more to Tweet about them. Is he the next big media mogul?

Accoding to TheRichest.com Hart has a net worth of $25 million and pulled in $14 million in 2013, the most recent year they have data for. But with three hit movies last year and another hitting theaters soon, it looks like that number may be on the rise.

According to a new, in depth article from Hollywood Reporter, Hart has made his fare share of smart business decisions to get to this level. When he launched his comedy tour in 2011 he invested $750,000 of his own cash. That tour went on to gross $15 million. He followed that up with a $2.5 million investment in his next tour, one that pulled in $32 million.

Hart’s business savvy doesn’t stop with his comedy tours though. The Sony hack revealed that Hart also leveraged his brand to make a little extra coin - $2 million to be precise - by tweeting from his account about Sony films.

Hart hopes his brand leads him past mere mortal Hollywood star. "I want to be a mogul, like Oprah or Jay Z or Tyler Perry," he told the Hollywood Reporter.

Those are some lofty goals. Tyler Perry’s net worth is $400 million, Jay Z’s is $520 million and Oprah’s is an eye-popping $2.9 billion.

Hart’s next step on the road to media domination comes Friday when his latest film, “The Wedding Ringer” hits theaters this Friday.
