Italy's PM Meloni denies 'allergy' to Germany
BERLIN, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday she did not remember ever having said she was "allergic" to Germany, but only that the German language was very difficult to learn.
"I have no memory of (having said) this ... I have said that German among the languages I have studied is the only one I have not been able to learn well," Meloni said in Berlin speaking alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
A 2019 interview with Italian right-wing newspaper Libero - still available on her personal website - quotes Meloni as saying she never managed to learn German even though she was studious at school.
"I'm allergic to Germany even when it comes to studying," she added according to the interview. (writing by Angelo Amante, editing by Gavin Jones)
