Are Insiders Buying PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (CVE:PYR) Stock?

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (CVE:PYR).

What Is Insider Selling?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

PyroGenesis Canada Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Interim Chairman of the Board Photis Pascali bought CA$1.9m worth of shares at a price of CA$0.55 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being CA$0.42). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Photis Pascali was the only individual insider to buy over the year.
