Imagine Owning New Dimension Resources (CVE:NDR) And Trying To Stomach The 82% Share Price Drop

New Dimension Resources Ltd. (CVE:NDR) shareholders will doubtless be very grateful to see the share price up 57% in the last week. But the last three years have seen a terrible decline. To wit, the share price sky-dived 82% in that time. Arguably, the recent bounce is to be expected after such a bad drop. Of course the real question is whether the business can sustain a turnaround.

We really feel for shareholders in this scenario. It's a good reminder of the importance of diversification, and it's worth keeping in mind there's more to life than money, anyway.

New Dimension Resources didn't have any revenue in the last year, so it's fair to say it doesn't yet have a proven product (or at least not one people are paying for). You have to wonder why venture capitalists aren't funding it. So it seems that the investors focused more on what could be, than paying attention to the current revenues (or lack thereof). It seems likely some shareholders believe that New Dimension Resources will find or develop a valuable new mine before too long.

Companies that lack both meaningful revenue and profits are usually considered high risk. There is usually a significant chance that they will need more money for business development, putting them at the mercy of capital markets. So the share price itself impacts the value of the shares (as it determines the cost of capital). While some such companies do very well over the long term, others become hyped up by promoters before eventually falling back down to earth, and going bankrupt (or being recapitalized). It certainly is a dangerous place to invest, as New Dimension Resources investors might realise.

New Dimension Resources had liabilities exceeding cash by CA$2,484,592 when it last reported in February 2019, according to our data. That puts it in the highest risk category, according to our analysis. But since the share price has dived -44% per year, over 3 years, it looks like some investors think it's time to abandon ship, so to speak. You can see in the image below, how New Dimension Resources's cash levels have changed over time (click to see the values).

It can be extremely risky to invest in a company that doesn't even have revenue. There's no way to know its value easily. What if insiders are ditching the stock hand over fist? I'd like that just about as much as I like to drink milk and fruit juice mixed together. It only takes a moment for you to check whether we have identified any insider sales recently.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market gained around 1.6% in the last year, New Dimension Resources shareholders lost 80%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Unfortunately, last year's performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 27% over the last half decade. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. New Dimension Resources is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find winning investments this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.
