Hyundai May Have Canceled Production Plans for the N Vision 74

Hyundai May Have Axed Plans to Build N Vision 74Hyundai

Hyundai's much-loved N Vision 74 concept car has been responsible for a roller coaster of media reports this year, with leaked internal memos and investor decks teasing enthusiasts into believing the 775-hp hydrogen-powered sports car will actually reach production. However, it seems our collective dreams may be about to be crushed, as a purported internal source is now claiming that the N Vision 74 isn't heading to mass production.

The unsubstantiated report comes from South Korean news outlet iNews24, which published a story on Monday citing an anonymous source that claimed "the N Vision 74 project has been canceled" and Hyundai is going back on its previously reported plan for mass production.

Back in May, we reported that Hyundai was talking to first-tier production partners ahead of an alleged mass production plan. However, either way, the brand is being coy about the specifics of what is to come for the N Vision 24.

"The concept car is intended to show future directions, and we have said internally that we are open to mass production," Hyundai said in a statement to iNews24."Nothing has been decided yet."

This statement falls in line with an investor deck that we reported on in August, which showed 21 incoming models for the Hyundai group — including a listing for "Hyundai N (Vision 74)." But the slide on the deck had no other details; that official confirmation of production, power figures, or price has yet to be found.

We hope the N Vision 74 comes to life if only to see something so forwardly designed driving on the street. However, some analysts are weary of Hyundai's overall focus on the project, citing a company that may be spread too thin.

"Hyundai Motor Company has been working on many projects recently, including urban air mobility (UAM), hydrogen, and software-defined vehicles (SDV)," Lee Hang-gu, head of the Automotive Convergence Technology Research Institute, said to iNews24. "In order to create a performance car, accumulated data is needed, but it hasn't even been 10 years since Genesis was created, and hydrogen cars have not contributed to the company's profits."
