How to Hunt for Buried Treasure in England

Scarborough, England, is about 200 miles north of London and the perfect place to uncover buried treasure—if you know where to look.

This was where I discovered geocaching, an outdoor recreational activity that involves searching for secret caches (little treasures) hidden all over the world.

The cache can be anything from gold to silver to toys to sweets. These aren’t exactly ancient treasure chests hidden by the Saxons. Geocaching is supported by an elaborate network of treasure-hunting enthusiasts who store the caches and then log them on the geocaching website.

It’s a little like orienteering except with a payoff at the end, but the real prize comes in finding a new way to explore your city or town through a mysterious treasure hunt.
