The Honda Space-Hub Is a Minivan for Mars

The Honda Space-Hub Is A Minivan For MarsHonda

Electric vehicle concepts are some of the more extreme and adventurous bits of design to come out of the auto industry as of late, thanks in part to the packaging benefits brought on by “skateboard” platforms. Honda revealed its new Space-Hub Concept at CES 2024 on Tuesday, and it looks like a van you’d find making the soccer run in a Mars colony.

The Space-Hub is one of two Honda 0 Series EV concepts to arrive at CES, alongside the Cyberpunk-looking Saloon. While the latter has been targeted for a 2026 production model, Honda has made no confirmation surrounding the Space-Hub itself. Like the Saloon, the vehicle is centered around Honda’s new battery and e-Axle setup, which combines a motor, inverter, and a gearbox. While we don’t have any performance metrics related to the powertrain, Honda says that it should provide lightning-quick charge times “by the late -2020s." Honda says its 0 Series models will go from 15 percent to 85 percent charged in under 15 minutes.

Range and charge times aren’t the highlight of this build, though. The concept is a look at the brand’s man-maximum/machine-minimum packaging ethos, with immense amounts of interior volume. The cabin itself appears to be well appointed, with rear seats facing inward toward one another for easy conversation. The large glass canopy provides an expansive outward view, while interior lighting makes changing moods a simple task. The automaker hasn’t provided a great look at the van’s exterior styling, but it looks fairly science fiction in the images provided.

Honda also plans to place a large focus on aerodynamics with the new 0 Series models, which is evident in the unmarred bodywork. The lighting elements are also rather unique, with almost a hint of F-Series in the headlights. Every Series 0 model that makes it to production will also feature a new Honda badge, marking the first change since 1981.

Whether or not Honda has plans to put the Space-Hub into production, the world could use an electric minivan or two in the EV era. If you’re gonna get stuck hauling the kids around in something silent and practical, it might as well be in something that could be mistaken for a spacecraft.
