Hollyoaks star addresses producer changeover and updates fans on filming

Hollyoaks' Joel Dexter actor Rory Douglas-Speed has weighed in on the soap's boss changeover.

Lucy Allan took charge of the reins again last month, 11 years after originally giving up her spot as executive producer.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Rory heaped praise on his new colleague, with particular respect for Lucy's steadying of the ship in such challenging times.

"Considering where she's picked the show up from mid-pandemic, everything's in disarray, she's really steadied the ship," he noted.

"We've got our scripts through now and they're great, I have to say. I feel like I'm really reaping the benefits. It's nice now to see some scripts coming in that I'm really enjoying."

Rory also recalled sitting down for a meeting with Lucy, explaining: "She's brilliant, she's so clued-up, she knows the show inside out. You can see that she's really intelligent and I can't wait to see what's coming up, not just for me personally but where she takes the show."

As for the filming situation on Hollyoaks, it sounds like the soap is quite a way off ditching social distancing on set, despite the UK's recent Freedom Day.

"If we get a breakout of anything on set, production stops, end of. So as much as it's great being outside [with restrictions lifted], in work it's different and the rules still apply.

"I don't know when they'll lift."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4.
