Yahoo Finance How to Help Those Affected by the Gatlinburg Wildfires
The fires have destroyed more than150 buildings and displaced thousands of people.
As wildfires continue to blaze in eastern Tennessee near Gatlinburg, some of the 14,000 people who were forced to evacuate their homes have begun to look at what comes next.
This is a fire for the history books, Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said at a morning news conference, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported. The likes of this has never been seen here. But the worst is definitely over with.
Local businesses and non-profit organizations are responding to the needs of dozens of families who are unable to return to their homes. Nearby restaurants in Sevier County, meanwhile, are offering free meals to firefighters and those who have been displaced by the fire, according to the Sentinel.
For people outside of the surrounding area of Gatlinburg, there are many ways to help the people affected by these fires.
A local organization called the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has begun a fund to help victims of the fire, according to the Tennessean. You can donate to the foundation through their website.
You can also donate to the Red Cross, as they help with emergency relief and supplies in Gatlinburg and nearby Pigeon Forge.
The Tennessee Valley Coalition for the Homeless and Remote Area Medical are also helping to care for the injured and displaced, according to AL.com. Both organizations accept monetary donations through their websites.
