Halle Bailey's 'Best Mother' award

Halle Bailey may have lost a few categories at the 2024 NAACP Awards — but she won the most important award of all.

The Little Mermaid star, 23, was nominated for entertainer of the year, outstanding actress in a motion picture and outstanding supporting actress in a motion picture at the NAACP Awards, which were handed out on Saturday.

While she might not have taken home any trophies this weekend, she was gifted a few at the Halle Awards, hosted by boyfriend DDG.

In a series of videos posted to Snapchat, the rapper, 26, gave Bailey several awards, including one for "best mother."

“I want to give this award out for the best one ever, and this award goes to the one and only, Halle Bailey. For the best mother award, wooo!" DDG said in the clip while she's holding the couple's 3-month-old son, Halo.

“I’m crying,” Bailey says, wiping away tears. “Thank you.”

At the 2024 ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards, Bailey was one of the four honorees at the event and reflected on her career and the birth of her son during her acceptance speech.

"We are Black women in entertainment, and although we signed up for the challenges of the spotlight, in this current climate, that spotlight burns brighter, hotter, and uninterrupted, whereas the scrutiny of its magnification leaves no concealment," she told the room.

"I've learned from that spotlight over the past eight years. I've also, if I'm being honest, been burned by it, too, as we all have," she said, referencing the racist backlash she faced when cast as Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

Noting that the role changed her life, she said, "It cannot compare to the biggest joy of my life. And that was becoming a mom to my perfect little angel Halo." Getting emotional, the star went on to explain why she chose to keep her pregnancy private, a decision that came from "a place of protection."

"There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone. Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me, or my family to that," she continued.
