Yahoo Finance Good Grief, Look Who’s on My Christmas Stamp
Some familiar faces could soon greet you when you open your mailbox. Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang have been memorialized in a new book of stamps, recently released by the U.S. Postal Service.
The forever stamps feature 10 scenes from the beloved holiday TV special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which is celebrating its 50 th anniversary this year. The Emmy-winning holiday show featuring Charles Schulz’s Peanuts characters first aired Dec. 9, 1965.
The stamps’ launch Oct. 2 is a nod to the debut of the original Peanuts comic strip in seven U.S. newspapers on Oct. 2, 1950, CNN said. “By the time of Charles Schulz’s death in 2000, his comic strip was syndicated in more than 2,600 newspapers worldwide, and his Peanuts books were published in more than 21 languages.”
The Charlie Brown stamps are available now in books of 20 for $9.80. Because the USPS is issuing the series as a forever stamp, the stamps will always be equal in value to the current price for 1 ounce of first class mail.
“It’s very popular, and we’re very excited to be bringing these stamps to the marketplace for the upcoming holiday season,” Postal Service spokesman Roy Betts said.
This isn’t the first time Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters have earned a spot on a postage stamp. A Snoopy stamp was issued in 2001.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the last original Peanuts comic strip was published on Feb. 13, 2000, one day before Schulz died. Since then, the popular comic has been in reruns.
Charlie Brown and his buddies will hit the big screen in “The Peanuts Movie,” which is scheduled to be released Nov. 6.
