German finance minister welcomes next defence minister Pistorius into cabinet

BERLIN, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Germany's Finance Minister Christian Lindner publicly congratulated Boris Pistorius on joining the federal cabinet on Tuesday and said he was looking forward to working together with the defence ministry.

The tweet by Lindner was the first confirmation from the government that Pistorius is set to become Germany's new defence minister ahead of an official announcement expected later on Tuesday. Pistorius, the Social Democrat (SPD) interior minister of the state of Lower Saxony, is set to replace Christine Lambrecht, who resigned on Monday.
