Gas prices dribbled less than a cent over the past week. Vancouver drivers caught the biggest discount nationwide, according to data provider Kalibrate.

The average cost per litre of regular fuel in cities across Canada fell 0.9 cents to $1.658 between June 20 and June 27. After Vancouver, the biggest price breaks were in Abbotsford, B.C., Fort St. John, B.C., and Calgary. Peterborough, Ont. booked the largest gain, with prices rising 5.5 cents per litre to $1.648.

Higher spending at gas stations in April helped snap two straight months of falling retail trade figures, according to Statistics Canada. On Friday, the agency reported real gross domestic product grew 0.3 per cent for the month.

That didn't help gas and convenience chain Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATD.TO) in its latest quarter. The Quebec-based company reported a near one-third drop in its earnings year-over-year on Wednesday. However, this may be because the bulk of its locations are in the United States, where the company has repeatedly warned of cash-strapped customers.

CEO Brian Hannasch told investors that he sees this trend passing as the summer heats up.
