ATCO subsidiary to build new Alberta pipeline to supply gas to petrochemical project
CALGARY — Canadian Utilities Ltd., a subsidiary of Calgary-based holding company ATCO Ltd., plans to build a new, $2-billion natural gas pipeline in Alberta that will supply a massive net-zero petrochemical project being built northeast of Edmonton. The project will be the largest-ever energy infrastructure project by an ATCO Energy Systems company, said chief operating officer Wayne Stensby in an interview. LONDON/BERLIN (Reuters) -Top executives at BMW and Volkswagen on Wednesday warned against imposing EU import duties on electric vehicles from Chinese automakers, saying it could upend the bloc's Green Deal plan and harm automakers that import cars made in China. The European Commission, which oversees trade policy in the 27-nation European Union, launched an investigation in October into whether fully-electric cars manufactured in China were receiving distortive subsidies and warranted extra tariffs. "You could very quickly shoot yourself in the foot," BMW CEO Oliver Zipse told reporters after the German premium automaker reported quarterly results.

A deadline is looming for millions of businesses who may be entitled to a payout in a $5.5 billion antitrust settlement with Visa and Mastercard. The settlement stems from a 2005 lawsuit that alleged merchants paid excessive fees to accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards, and that Visa and Mastercard and their member banks acted in violation of antitrust laws. Any businesses that accepted Visa and/or Mastercard credit or debit cards in the U.S. between January 1, 2004 and January 25, 2019 may be eligible to receive part of the settlement.

Oil rises on US crude storage draw, China imports show year-on-year gain
SINGAPORE (Reuters) -Oil prices rose on Thursday as falling U.S. crude inventories amid rising refinery intake and a year-on-year increase in Chinese imports last month supported higher demand expectations for the world's two largest crude consuming nations. Brent crude futures for July rose 27 cents, or 0.3%, to $83.85 a barrel by 0650 GMT. Crude inventories in the U.S., the world's biggest oil user, dropped last week by 1.4 million barrels to 459.5 million barrels, according to the Energy Information Administration, more than analysts' expectations for a 1.1 million-barrel draw.

CICC, Citic, JPMorgan cut investment banking jobs in China as deals stall
HONG KONG (Reuters) -Two Chinese companies and JPMorgan have become the latest banking groups to cut jobs in China as a slow recovery in listing and dealmaking activities force them to ramp up cost controls, six sources with knowledge of the matter said. Beijing-based China International Capital Corp (CICC) is planning to reduce its investment banking headcount by at least 10% this year, two people with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Peer CITIC Securities is cutting around a dozen investment banking jobs in Hong Kong, according to two other sources.
