Grocery prices continue to increase in Canada, but the good news is that the growth rate is slowing.

The price of food purchased from grocery stores increased 5.8 per cent annually in September, slower than the year-over-year increase of 6.9 per cent recorded in August. Still, the increase remains above Canada's headline inflation rate, which increased 3.8 per cent in September.

Food prices have remained stubbornly high in Canada and above headline inflation, even as CPI has cooled from a peak increase of 8.1 per cent hit in June 2022.

Here's a breakdown of the year-over-year price increases in September for food from Canadian grocery stores. The figures in brackets are the year-over-year price increases recorded in August.
