An alleged robbery attempt in West Palm Beach, Fla., resulted in the death of a father who'd taken a second job as a pizza delivery driver to support his children, authorities say, according to multiple reports.

The West Palm Beach Police Department told WPTV that the incident happened just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday after Domino's pizza delivery driver Tommie Anderson III, 33, dropped off a pizza at a home around the central Palm Beach area.

Police allege three people — Marcus T. Williams, 29, Avianna Williams, 25, and Elijsha Wingfield, 25 — approached Anderson and shot him while trying to rob him, according to WPBF and The Palm Beach Post, which cite arrest reports.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Anderson bleeding from his neck and arm from gunshot wounds, according to WPTV. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

Police told the outlet that a nearby surveillance camera captured footage of the three people pulling up near Anderson's car in a white Honda four-door vehicle. Florida Highway Patrol eventually located the car and brought the three people in for questioning, WPTV reported.

According to the arrest report, Wingfield and Williams were allegedly armed with a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 rifle, respectively, when they got out of the car and surrendered to police.

During the interrogation, Wingfield allegedly told police that he "was in need of money and was expecting a paycheck, which he didn't receive," the arrest report said, per WPBF. The Palm Beach Post, citing the arrest report, reported that one of the WIlliamses allegedly told police he had spotted Anderson’s car and told Wingfield, who had been driving, to stop and "see what he's got."

During his confrontation with Anderson, Wingfield allegedly told police he “was afraid Mr. Anderson was going to shoot him" after the delivery driver reached down to his pocket after initially putting his hands up, according to WPTV. So, Wingfield said he fired three shots at him before fleeing the scene, the arrest report states, per WPTV.

Wingfield, Williams and Williams were arrested on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and booked into the main Palm Beach County jail, where they will be held without bail, WPTV reported.

It's not immediately clear if any of the suspects have have entered pleas or retained attorneys.

The West Palm Beach Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on the incident.

Anderson’s family told WPBF and CBS 12 that it had only been his second day on the job when the shooting happened. They said he had been working another job, but had taken on the second job in order to help support his two children.

“It’s a senseless killing," Tommie Anderson Jr, the victim's father, told CBS 12. "He just started at Domino’s pizza, had been [on] for two days. What can you get off killing a pizza delivery guy? He ain’t got no money or anything like that. That’s what I can’t understand. I’ve been up all night, hurt, crying.”

“He was just trying to make ends meet for my two grandkids. That's all he was trying to do," Anderson Jr. added to WPTV.
