Five-car wreck on 99 south of Elk Grove backs up traffic for miles, but no one hurt
A five-car pileup on Highway 99 south of Elk Grove backed up traffic for miles Monday afternoon but no injuries were reported.
Emergency crews were called at 2:21 p.m. to the chain-reaction collision on southbound Highway 99 between Grant Line and Dillard roads, said Cosumnes Fire Department Operations Chief Dan Quiggle, a department spokesman. Cosumnes units headed to the scene, but were later sent back to their stations.
The vehicles were cleared from the roadway, Quiggle said, but Caltrans officials said in a Twitter post that the No. 1 lane remains closed with no estimated time of reopening.
