Termites Feed on Cash Worth Lakhs Kept in Bank of Baroda’s Locker in Gujarat’s Vadodara; Bank Terms It ‘Unnatural Incident’, Assures Immediate Action

Gandhinagar, January 23: In a shocking incident, termites fed on and destroyed cash worth more than Rs 2 Lakh kept in a Bank of Baroda's locker in Vadodara, Gujarat. As per reports, cash bundle of Rs 2.20 Lakh stored in a locker at the Bank of Baroda branch at Pratap Nagar in the city were eaten up by termites. The bank in its official statement termed it as an 'unnatural incident' and assured all its customers that it has taken immediate steps to rectify this situation. "In an unnatural incident at our Pratap Nagar branch in Vadodara, a small portion of a customer’s cash was damaged due to termite infestation. Bank of Baroda would like to assure all our customers that we have taken immediate steps to rectify this situation. Disinfection of the branch premises is being conducted so as to ensure that this incident will not recur. We have also taken the customer’s complaint into cognizance and shall do the needful as soon as possible", the Bank said in its official statement.

The locker reportedly belonged to Rehna Qutubddin Desarwal resident of Vadodara city. He had kept money in locker number 252 of the bank to ensure its safety and security. As soon as he came to know the incident, Desarwal raised a complaint with the bank manager and informed him about it. He demanded that the bank refund the money which he lost due to the termites. The shocking incident has raised suspicion on the security in banks.
