Yahoo Finance Ex-White House Press Secretary Says She's 'Nervous' Following Trump's 'Chilling' Post
Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary under Donald Trump, on Friday said she was “nervous” following a social media post by the ex-president — and that other Trump critics should feel the same way.
Grisham spoke to CNN’s Brianna Keilar about the message on her erstwhile boss’s Truth Social platform from earlier in the day, which read, “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”
“Well, I think it’s chilling. Legally, it doesn’t seem like it’s very smart. But how is that not intimidation? And, you know, what other people are going to take a message from that?” Grisham said, before making reference to the 2021 insurrection in Washington.
“As we have seen and heard, people really believe that Donald Trump sent them to the Capitol and people really felt like hours later when he said to stop, they listened.”
The Truth Social post led prosecutors to call for a protective order from a federal judge overseeing Trump’s 2020 election case, which centers on efforts to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden. The order would restrict what the former president and his legal team could disclose to the general public about the case.
The court filing claims that if Trump started making posts with details from grand jury transcripts or certain other information, this could lead to a “harmful chilling effect on witnesses or adversely affect the fair administration of justice.”
Grisham, who also served as chief of staff to former first lady Melania Trump, went on to express concern for those who have spoken out against Trump.
“Does someone have to get hurt before people take this kind of online intimidation seriously?” she said.
“As somebody who gets death threats every other day, it makes me nervous. It should make anybody who’s ever spoken out against him nervous. And that’s a lot of people.”
In a statement Saturday, a Trump spokesperson wrote that the Truth Social post “is the definition of political speech” and was a response to “dishonest special interest groups and Super PACs.”
