EU needs Polish, Hungarian OK for EU budget by tomorrow, or move to Plan B

BRUSSELS, Dec 7 (Reuters) - The European Union needs a signal from Poland and Hungary on Monday or Tuesday they will withdraw their veto to the EU budget and recovery fund or it will have to set up the recovery fund without the two countries, a senior EU diplomat said.

"We need to have an agreement by Hungary and Poland until today or tomorrow. If we don't, we will move to a scenario B," the diplomat said.

Scenario B means setting up the EU's 750 billion euro recovery fund by 25 countries of the European Union, without Poland and Hungary. Under that scenario, the EU's next long-term budget of 1.1 trillion euros would remain blocked. (Reporting by Jan Strupczewski)
