If EPS Growth Is Important To You, CB Financial Services (NASDAQ:CBFV) Presents An Opportunity

It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like CB Financial Services (NASDAQ:CBFV). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Fast Is CB Financial Services Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years CB Financial Services' earnings per share took off; so much so that it's a bit disingenuous to use these figures to try and deduce long term estimates. As a result, we'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Outstandingly, CB Financial Services' EPS shot from US$2.42 to US$4.39, over the last year. It's a rarity to see 82% year-on-year growth like that. Shareholders will be hopeful that this is a sign of the company reaching an inflection point.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. It's noted that CB Financial Services' revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort our analysis of its margins. CB Financial Services maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 34% to US$67m. That's encouraging news for the company!

Are CB Financial Services Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Investors are always searching for a vote of confidence in the companies they hold and insider buying is one of the key indicators for optimism on the market. Because often, the purchase of stock is a sign that the buyer views it as undervalued. Of course, we can never be sure what insiders are thinking, we can only judge their actions.

We haven't seen any insiders selling CB Financial Services shares, in the last year. With that in mind, it's heartening that Mark Fox, the Independent Chairman of the Board of the company, paid US$11k for shares at around US$23.79 each. It seems that at least one insider is prepared to show the market there is potential within CB Financial Services.
