We have yet to test the turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the base Macan, but the twin-turbo V-6 found in the Macan S and GTS models is powerful and satisfying, and Porsche’s PDK transmission is as good as ever.

What’s New for 2018?

The Macan lineup carries the same set of powertrains for 2018, with a 252-hp turbo four-banger and two twin-turbo V-6 engines making either 340 hp (in the Macan S) or 360 hp (in the GTS). A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are still standard equipment.

2017 Porsche Macan

The 340-hp Macan S crested 60 mph in 5.1 seconds during a recent test, the exact same result returned by both the Audi SQ5 and the Jaguar F-Pace S. It’s objectively unnecessary for an SUV to launch off the line that quickly, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the ride. The GTS, which has 20 extra horsepower and a tautened chassis, made the run to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. For a little context, we’ve made the same sprint in the same time in a Porsche 718 Boxster with a six-speed manual.

A capable all-wheel-drive system is standard in the Macan, and Porsche’s familiar seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission shifts with such finesse that you’ll think it’s hard-wired to your brain.
