Driver dies after crashing into creek along Kansas 7 highway in Olathe

·1 min read

A 48-year-old man was killed when his vehicle plunged into a creek along Kansas 7 highway in Olathe during the morning rush hour Friday, police said.

Officers responded to the crash shortly before 7:40 a.m. along southbound K-7, north of West 119th Street, according to Sgt. Joel Yeldell, a spokesman for the Olathe Police Department.

Shortly thereafter, emergency workers with the Olathe Fire Department and Johnson County Med-Act responded to the scene on a water rescue call.

Arriving officers found the driver, who was unresponsive. Despite attempts to save the man’s life, he was pronounced dead at the scene, Yeldell said. The man’s name was being withheld until family could be notified.

The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6363 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
