Potline bling: Canopy Growth and Drake tease cannabis announcements

Is Drake the latest celebrity to lend starpower to cannabis giant Canopy Growth? (WEED.TO)(CGC)

The famed Toronto rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday night with a video featuring the phrase “Welcome to More Life Growth Co.” spinning in front of what appears to be a futuristic greenhouse. At the same time, the so-called 6ix God’s team has been busy distributing mysterious bouquets of flowers to strangers and media outlets to promote the new venture.

A trademark registration application filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on Oct. 21, 2019, for “MORE LIFE GROWTH COMPANY” came from the Dream Crew IP, the same Hollywood-based firm behind a filing for “AIR DRAKE,” the name on the private jumbo jet Drake has been flying around in.

The More Life application lists “cannabis products and accessories, medical cannabis, THC and CBD.” Another similar application was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Oct. 18.

Fans have been clamouring for more details about the rapper’s potential foray into the cannabis business.

Breakfast Television journalist Dina Pugliese-Mirkovich, who was among the flower bouquet recipients, said more details are expected to be released on Thursday.

Yahoo Finance Canada is told Canopy Growth will make an announcement related to a new celebrity collaboration on Thursday. A Canopy Growth spokesperson declined to comment.

If a collaboration with Drake were to materialize, he would join fellow rapper Snoop Dogg, as well as actor Seth Rogen and lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart on Canopy Growth’s roster of celebrity backers.
