A Drag Racer Walked Away Unharmed From This Huge, Fiery Accident

From Road & Track

Talladega wasn't the only destructive motorsports event this weekend: The NHRA's Houston event saw a huge crash in a Pro Mod Corvette, and this, a fiery explosion for Terry McMillen's Top Fuel car. Amazingly, he walked away from the accident unharmed.

According to an Instagram post by McMillen, the explosion was caused by a "restraint system failure" he says was, unfortunately, unavoidable. The car is totally destroyed, but McMillen walked away without injury.

In a post race interview with Fox Sports 1, McMillen said his immediate instinct was to get the car as close to the wall as possible so no debris would hit his competitor. He says the team hopes to rebuild the car in time for the next event.

As we said in regards to Sidnei Frigo's Corvette crash, it's amazing that these cars are safe enough for racers to walk away from accidents like this relatively unscathed.
