Donald Trump is starting to make peace with journalists he once called 'clowns' and 'pathetic'

Real-estate magnate Donald Trump is well-known for his aggressive approach to his critics in the press. But lately, Trump has been showing a softer side.
Trump frequently blasted reporters and columnists in handwritten comments on printed versions of their articles.
"You are the racist," Trump wrote to Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart last month, for instance.
On Tuesday, the Post's Chris Cillizza tweeted a photo of one of Trump's media missives that hailed his work:

Needless to say, Trump wasn't always such a fan:
One of the dumber and least respected of the political pundits is Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post @TheFix. Moron hates my poll numbers

That's not the only time in recent days that Trump has decided to revise his opinion about a journalist.
Trump previously raged against conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer:
One of the worst and most boring political pundits on television is @krauthammer. A totally overrated clown who speaks without knowing facts
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 5, 2015
.@krauthammer pretends to be a smart guy, but if you look at his record, he isn't. A dummy who is on too many Fox shows. An overrated clown!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 5, 2015
But then Trump praised Krauthammer on Monday night after he appeared on Fox News:
Thank you @krauthammer for your nice comments on @oreillyfactor. A lot of progress is being made!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 4, 2015
And Trump used to predict 'Meet the Press' anchor Chuck Todd would be 'fired like a dog':
I hear that sleepy eyes @chucktodd will be fired like a dog from ratings starved Meet The Press? I can't imagine what is taking so long!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 13, 2015
Sleep eyes @ChuckTodd is killing Meet The Press. Isn't he pathetic? Love watching him fail!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 12, 2015
But apparently Trump has recently made 'progress' on that front as well. And he appeared on 'Meet the Press' last weekend:
Thank you @chucktodd for your commentary last night on @NBCNightlyNews. Very fair -- we are making progress together!
