Yahoo Finance Domestic & General embraces flexible working, as London HQ gets revamp
Domestic & General, the warranties group that employs around 2500 staff in the UK, has joined the list of businesses embracing flexible working on a permanent basis.
Pre-pandemic the company had most of its 500-strong London team in the Wimbledon HQ five days a week. When the office reopens from July 26 it is envisaged around two-three days a week will be spent there going forward, with remote working for the remainder of the week.
The firm, whose policies, often for white goods, are present in one in three UK homes, is also undertaking a makeover of its Wimbledon head office where management, HR, finance and other teams are based.
The site will see dedicated desk space slashed from over 600 to 363, making it more spacious, and new breakout areas are being created, as are meeting pods. Indoor plants will also feature heavily.
There will also be plenty of bike storage space and locker rooms for staff.
Chief operating officer Nick Ulycz said six internal surveys consistently showed staff wanted hybrid working, and for the group “coming together regularly” remains important.
Domestic & General will also have the hybrid working model across its other UK offices.
The update comes as numerous firms draw up post-pandemic workspace plans.
Many companies are impressed at how well staff could work from home during the pandemic, and plan to offer more hybrid working in the future.
Yesterday broadcaster ITV announced plans to reduce total London office space and have most staff in the capital based out a new office in White City. It also plans to have flexible working.
