Yahoo Finance Dolly Parton Received Her COVID-19 Vaccine, After Previously Donating $1 Million to Fund Development
She's been called a legend, an icon, and "the patron saint of 2020," and now we can add one more superlative to singer Dolly Parton's seemingly endless list: vaccinated.
Earlier today, Parton posted a photo of herself wearing a mask and receiving a shot from a doctor at Vanderbilt Health with the caption, "Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine."

Shortly thereafter, she shared a video of the experience, saying "I'm finally going to get my vaccine. I'm so excited. I've been waiting a while. I'm old enough to get it and I'm smart enough to get it, so I'm very happy that I'm going to get my Moderna shot today and I wanted to tell everybody, I think you should get out there and do it too."
Parton even sang an updated version of her song "Jolene" for the occasion, changing the lyrics to "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you please don't hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, 'cause once you're dead, then that's a bit too late." And as further humorous incentive, she added, "I just want to say to all of you cowards out there, don't be such a chicken squat, get out there, and get your shot."
The video goes on to show Parton receiving her vaccine from Dr. Naji Abumrad, the same Vanderbilt researcher she credited last year when she announced that she was donating $1 million to help fund the development of the vaccine.

The decision got the famous singer hailed as a hero online when the Moderna vaccine was first announced, so it seems only fitting that she's finally getting the opportunity to enjoy the benefits. Thus far, it's estimated that more than 76 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the U.S., reaching approximately 15.3% of the total American population.
