Direct flight launched from Regina, Sask. to Orlando, Florida

A direct flight service from Regina to Florida launched Thursday.

The non-stop WestJet flight from Regina to Orlando, Florida will run every Thursday from now until April 27, according to a news release from the Regina Airport Authority.

"Orlando is one of our top transborder destinations, so it is not surprising that we are seeing Saskatchewan travellers already booking and taking advantage of this new direct non-stop service from YQR," Regina Airport Authority President and CEO Richmond Graham said.

WestJet's public relations manager Robert Palmer said the Orlando flight is an "outstanding opportunity for our guests to enjoy the many theme parks and attractions this amazing area has to offer including, of course, the Walt Disney World Resort."

United Airlines cancelled its direct Saskatchewan flights to Chicago in 2014 and to Denver in 2015. WestJet and other airlines continue to offer direct flights to U.S. destinations such as Las Vegas and Phoenix.
