What is Devin Nunes’ new job? He’ll be working for former President Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Republican Congressman Devin Nunes will be the chief executive officer for a new social media and streaming organization, Trump Media & Technology Group.

Nunes previously had revealed that he will be retiring from Congress at the end of the year.

“Congressman Devin Nunes is a fighter and a leader. He will make an excellent CEO of TMTG. Devin understands that we must stop the liberal media and Big Tech from destroying the freedoms that make America great. America is ready for TRUTH Social and the end to censorship and political discrimination,” Trump said in a statement released Monday afternoon.

Nunes, who has served in Congress since 2003, will take up his post as head of Trump’s new organization in January.

“The time has come to reopen the Internet and allow for the free flow of ideas and expression without censorship. The United States of America made the dream of the Internet a reality and it will be an American company that restores the dream. I’m humbled and honored President Trump has asked me to lead the mission and the world class team that will deliver on this promise,” Nunes said in a statement.

Nunes has been critical of the social media company Twitter, going so far as to sue the company, as well as the owners of several Twitter accounts, alleging defamation. In one case, a Virginia judge in August 2020 ruled the Nunes cannot sue the company over users’ posts, although the congressman in that lawsuit continues to attempt to sue the writers behind two anonymous Twitter accounts who heckle him on the social media platform.

Nunes also has been a champion of the conservative social media site Parler, and has an account on that service.

The Trump Media & Technology Group is a social media and technology company, according to a statement from the organization. It will be launching a new social media platform, called TruthSocial, that “will provide an outlet that encourages open global conversation without discrimination against political ideology,” according to the statement.

The company also will be launching TMTG+, a subscription-based streaming service that will provide “non-woke entertainment, news, documentaries, podcasts and more.”

According to the Associated Press, regulators are currently looking into the media venture, which previously announced that it has secured $1 billion in investment funding from unnnamed investors.

Nunes has long been a strong ally and supporter of Trump’s, including voting on Jan. 6 to dispute the 2020 election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania.

As president, Trump awarded Nunes the Presidential Medal of Freedom for the congressman’s work opposing Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference in the 2016 presidential election.
