Employees at a Dairy Queen in Campton, Ky., reportedly claim they were forced by a manager to eat ice cream mixed with cleaning solution on Feb. 23.

A parent of one of the employees, Angela Patton, claimed to WKYT on Tuesday that the restaurant manager allegedly called eight employees to a “mandatory” meeting, where they were told to eat the contaminated ice cream.

“They were told by the manager that whether or not they liked chocolate ice cream, they were going to eat it today,” Patton alleged to WKYT. “Some of the kids had complained that they had a burning sensation when they swallowed the ice cream.”

Patton shared that many of the employees were minors, including her 17-year-old daughter. Following the incident, she said some of the employees had quit — including her daughter. Patton also said some of the employees were taken to the emergency room afterward, reports 44News Evansville.

Patton said she is meeting with a lawyer. “What they’ve done is not right,” she alleged to WKYT.

As the investigation continues, the Campton Dairy Queen franchise owner Steve Caudill tells PEOPLE, “The manager involved is no longer employed at our restaurant.”
