Daikin, Amana and Goodman heat pumps recalled due to excessive heat exposure risk

The Canadian Press

Health Canada says thousands of heat pumps sold in the country are being recalled over a risk of excessive heat exposure.

The recall includes multiple models of Daikin, Amana and Goodman-branded heat pumps.

It was issued jointly by Health Canada, the United States Consumer Protection Agency, and Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing.

Health Canada says power interruptions can lead to the units providing heat once power resumes, despite the thermostat being in cooling mode.

Those with affected heat pumps, which can be identified by the model number on the side of the unit, are urged to contact the manufacturer to receive a corrective update and stop using the product until the issue is addressed.

More than 5,500 affected units were sold in Canada, but the recall says the company has received no reports of overheating or injuries as of June 13.
