Costco sells a 27-lb. bucket of mac & cheese that lasts 20 years

Wholesale retailer Costco’s 27-pound bucket of mac and cheese briefly sold out on Friday amid high demand.

The Chef’s Banquet Macaroni and Cheese Storage Bucket consists of 180 servings and has a supposed shelf life of 20 years, if it’s stored in a dry, cool environment. On the Costco ($COST) website, it is available for $89.99. Consumers can also purchase it on Amazon Prime for $149.99 with free shipping.

The food itself weighs over 23 lbs. and comes to a staggering total of 26 lbs., 10 oz., when factoring in its heavy duty, 6-gallon bucket with a gamma lid. According to the Costco website, the elbow pasta and cheddar cheese sauce are “package in separate bulk Metalite pouches with oxygen absorbers, to protect the quality and ensure a long shelf life.”

Costco has become a prime location for thrifty shoppers looking to save money and find particular items in bulk. The mac and cheese bucket isn’t the first jumbo-sized item from Costco that has garnered attention. Just a few days ago, the retailer announced that it would begin selling a nearly 7-pound tub of Nutella for $21.99.
