Clinton on Trump taxes: 'There's something he's hiding'

Hillary Clinton unleashed a blistering attack on Donald Trump for refusing to release his tax returns.

"There's something he's hiding," Clinton said, as Trump was visibly agitated, and gave conflicting answers about the conditions for releasing his returns.

"I think he's probably not all that enthusiastic about having his country see what the real reason" is, Clinton said.

"I think there may be a couple of reasons," Clinton said, warming to the theme. "I think there may be a couple of reasons."

"Maybe he's not as rich as he says he is," she said. "Second, maybe he's not as charitable as he claims to be. We don't know all his business dealings, but we have been told through investigative reporting that he owes $650 million to Wall Street and foreign banks, or maybe he doesn't want the American people, all of you watching tonight to know that he's paid nothing in federal taxes."

"Because the only years that anybody's ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a casino license, and they showed he didn't pay any federal income tax."

Trump said he would release his tax returns once an IRS audit is complete, although tax officials have repeatedly said there is no bar in him releasing them until then. Trump then said he would release the returns, against the advice of his lawyers, if Clinton released 33,000 emails that he said were deleted when she was secretary of state.
