Chris Evans-Led 'Top Gear' Returns To BBC On May 8

While there’s been plenty of interest in Amazon’s planned show starring former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, let’s not forget that the actual Top Gear series isn’t going away. A new season with a new set of hosts will be airing on the BBC next year, with the first episode due on May 8.

The information was revealed by the only new host currently confirmed for the show, British presenter Chris Evans. As reported by The Guardian, Evans revealed during an interview on another BBC show that the first episode from the new season of Top Gear will air the first Sunday after filming for the season finishes on May 5, which is May 8.

Other tidbits he revealed included news that part of the season will be filmed in North America next month and that production work had already begun. The new season, officially season 23 of the current Top Gear format, will contain 16 episodes as well as some specials.

As for the new show with Clarkson, Hammond and May, it’s due to commence in the fall of 2016. So far, three seasons containing 12 episodes each have been confirmed, and the first episode may just seen a comparison between the LaFerrari, P1 and 918 Spyder.
