China plans to strengthen intelligent connected vehicles' OTA upgrade

Cars to be exported sit at a terminal in the port of Yantai

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's industry ministry on Thursday published draft rules on recalls and over-the-air software upgrades of intelligent connected vehicles, aiming to strengthen supervision of OTA upgrades that have become commonplace in product recalls of electric vehicles under Chinese regulations.

The draft rules stipulated an improvement in the incident reporting and analysis mechanism. In case of accidents such as collision or remote control of vehicles equipped with the combined driving assistance system, the car manufacturer and seller needs to report to the industry minister and the market regulator.

The ministry is seeking public comment through Sept. 1 on the regulation.
