Chicken fried gator and Miami’s best croquetas: Doral Yard gets first big restaurant
Straight out of west Kendall and into The Doral Yard comes the latest restaurant from Chef Eileen Andrade.
Andrade, the chef behind Finka Table & Tap and Amelia’s 1931, has just opened Barbakoa by Finka in Downtown Doral.
Barbakoa, located in Doral Yard’s outdoor Backyard area, is the first full-service restaurant at the Yard, a hub for food vendors, live music and other community events. The cuisine features Latin-Asian fusion, but there’s a nod to Miami tradition, too: The beloved Islas Canarias croquetas will be on the menu (Islas Canarias was opened by Andrade’s parents in 1977).
There will be new choices, too, like chicken-fried alligator with pickled onion and pickled radish tacos as well as wok-fired okra with kimchee lime sauce and cashews. There’s also a smoked brisket with aji amarillo mac n cheese and grilled corn on the cob. And don’t miss the loaded Spanish boniato fries with vaca frita, sour cream, maduros and cabbage kimchee.
Doral Yard is a family-friendly spot, and Barbakoa has the kids covered with a pizza menu. Adults are also welcome to dive into everybody’s favorite cheesy comfort food, maybe the Hot Honey Pepperoni version or a Camaron Enchilado pie. Come for happy hour and discover the craft cocktail program, which echoes the drinks menu at Finka Table & Tap.
Barbakoa by Finka joins several food concepts at the Yard: della bowls (plant-based fare and one of the stars of the late, great Wynwood Yard); Un Pollo (Venezuelan rotisserie chicken); Yip (handcrafted dumplings); Pokekai (poke bowls); Santo Dulce (churros); and Paletas Morelia (handcrafted gourmet pops). There’s also The Bar at the Yard for beer, wine and specialty cocktails.
