Mark Gregory is not designing a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show this year, but he is behind five exciting builds for the historic autumn show.

There is so much to see at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2021 (21st - 26th September) and Mark, alongside his team at Landform Consultants, has been busy building some spectacular gardens, working with Gold medal-winning garden designers Sarah Eberle and Arit Anderson, to name a few.

Known as the 'King of Chelsea', Mark is founder of Landform Consultants, the design and construction team behind his gold medal-winning Welcome to Yorkshire gardens, one of which was crowned Garden of the Decade last year.

'Even though I haven't brought a design to Chelsea this year, we are more than proud to knuckle down and create some magic,' Mark says. 'It's what our industry is all about, and I don't think I’ll ever stop being enthralled by this amazing show.

'We know only too well the importance of design and attention to detail and we are delighted to have been chosen to undertake these builds as well as putting forward our own design by our fantastic newest designer, Nicola Hale.'

This year Landform Consultants is building five showpieces at the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show 2021. Take a look at the gardens in more detail as Mark talks through each unique build.

The RHS & BBC Garden of Hope designed by Arit Anderson

What is the garden about? This garden illustrates how gardening and growing plants provides hope and joy. Central to the design is a beautiful steam-bent wooden sculpture by Charlie Whinney, which twists and flows throughout the garden, creating the feel of a big hug. Post RHS Chelsea, the garden will be relocated to the Mother and Baby Unit Rosewood, part of Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership Trust, to provide a safe sanctuary and a place of hope for the women and their babies to spend time in.

'Arit is one of the calmest and kindest designers I have ever worked with. She has an innate understanding and respect for the construction of her garden. It is her first time as a designer at Chelsea and she is great at empowering and supporting her team to get on with it,' Mark says.

'We are delighted she chose Landform for the job – we bring a wealth of experience and a safe pair of hands to deliver. It is great she has respected our understanding of how to produce a Show Garden and has let us shine at what we do best.'

Bible Society: The Psalm 23 Garden designed by Sarah Eberle

What is the garden about? Sarah Eberle's interpretation of Psalm 23, 'The Lord is my Shepherd', is a garden that offers a place to breathe, re-engage with nature, and feel mentally, physically and spiritually restored. It's inspired by the landscape of Dartmoor, where Sarah grew up, and offers a place of restoration and sanctuary for the future.

'This is the fastest Chelsea Show garden build we have ever done and I am putting it down to some divine intervention! The garden was blessed at the beginning of the build and from now on I will be getting all of my Show Gardens blessed because it has been the most faultless and effortless build of my career,' Mark explains. 'We are two Chelsea stalwarts that have come together and worked like a well-oiled machine. We’ve had the right equipment, the right people and the right build programme – it has flown!'

Parsley Box Garden designed by Alan Williams

What is the garden about? This garden seeks to champion and empower the over 60s and challenge the out-dated stereotypes of ageing. It's inspired by the philosophy of conserving nature's bounty through fermentation and preservation.

The design is contemporary, sleek and elegant with an outdoor kitchen adjacent to an entertaining space sheltered by a cantilevered pergola and flanked by tiered planters, enabling accessibility for all generations. The borders are brimming with edibles to forage and bring flavour to dishes, all while minimising food waste.

'I have been delighted to support such an unceasingly positive and enthusiastic designer. It is one of the greatest pleasures of my life to nurture talent and help channel their passion and skill in order to bring their design and their dream to life. Helping support someone's first steps at Chelsea is a very precious thing –it is a privilege,' Mark explains.

Landform Balcony Garden designed by Nicola Hale

Designed for a city dwelling couple, this balcony garden is a place to relax and entertain. Early modernist architecture inspires the craftsmanship and detailing of the bespoke planters, and the pollinator plants provide a habitat that contributes to the valuable wildlife corridors in our cities. The palette is bright and sunny, using colours attractive to honey, bumble and solitary bees.

'Nicola is the newest member of our design team and she has really done us proud. We have created a believable space that has a contemporary feel and is totally bespoke. There is nothing off the shelf in this garden,' Mark says. 'We don’t push to our own taste, Nicola has demonstrated that Landform will create whatever you want, we can make anything a reality, which is the beauty of bespoke.'

Gaze Burvill trade stand designed by Ann-Marie Powell

The Gaze Burvill garden display explores how our outside spaces keep us happy, healthy and connected to each other and nature. The front area brings a 'rural refined' concept to life, while the rear is inspired by wild Hampshire.

Mark comments: 'Working with Ann-Marie Powell is always a joy, and Gaze Burvill have been clever in employing her skill to create this transportational space. Trade stands have really upped their game over the last few years and we now approach them no differently to building a gold medal standard garden. They're no longer somewhere to simply show their wares, these are pockets full of inspiration.

'This garden display has some of the best autumnal planting at the show – it is so colourful and vibrant – it is absolutely fantastic, visitors are going to love it.'
