Cheaper flight, less legroom: Toronto direct flights added in Deer Lake

Deer Lake Regional Airport has introduced two direct flights to Toronto daily through Air Canada Rouge.

The two new routes replace the regular daily direct flight to Toronto.

The new service will operate during the busy summer tourism season, and is being touted as providing 30 more seats this year over last.

A 136-seat Airbus with Air Canada Rouge will fly out of Deer Lake at 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.

"The additional seat capacity on the Airbus 319 aircraft along with the affordable fares will help stimulate passenger traffic and enhance travel activity during the busy summer tourist season," said Jamie Schwartz, Deer Lake Airport CEO.

Rouge flights are not quite the same as regular Air Canada flights — it has no in-flight television screens and a seat width of 44.5 centimetres.

A round trip flight from Deer Lake in July will cost $527.99, taxes in.

The Deer Lake to Toronto flight will return to daily service during the fall and winter schedule.
