CEE MARKETS-Polish zloty dips, Hungarian bond auctions eyed

By Anita Komuves BUDAPEST, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The Polish zloty slid on Thursday, but remained near levels it recovered to in the previous session, as geopolitical fears eased over a missile that killed two people in Poland on Tuesday near the NATO member's border with Ukraine. The zloty was 0.4% lower on the day and trading at 4.7095 versus the common currency. First reports of the blast had pushed the zloty to three-week lows, but the currency pared losses after Poland and NATO said the missile was probably not a Russian strike but a stray fired by Ukraine's air defences. "A clearly positive reaction of the zloty to yesterday's reports about the causes of the rocket explosion in Poland gives hope today for a continuation of the EUR/PLN decline," ING wrote in a note. "The nearest support zone is around 4.67-68. However, a descent to 4.65 in the horizon of a few days cannot be ruled out." Warsaw's blue chip index extended its losses from the previous session and was down 1.81%. Elsewhere, the Hungarian forint was flat on the day, trading at 410.40 per euro amid low liquidity. Long-term Hungarian bond yields were stable ahead of an auction later in the day where the Government Debt Management Agency (AKK) is offering three sets of bonds worth a total of 55 billion forints ($140 million). The yield on the 10-year benchmark bond was about 8.50%, a fixed-income trader said. Markets in the Czech Republic were closed for a holiday.
