CALGARY — A Calgary energy company has been ordered to abandon close to 1,000 wells, pipelines and other facilities over concerns about care and maintenance of the sites.

EU set to disclose tariff rates for Chinese electric vehicles
The European Commission is this week expected to disclose the tariffs it plans to impose on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) due to what it says are excessive subsidies, a move likely to prompt stern words and possible retaliation from Beijing. Less than a month after Washington quadrupled duties for Chinese EVs to 100%, Brussels will set almost certainly far lower tariffs for imports from Chinese makers such as BYD and Geely as well as western producers such as Tesla that export cars from China to Europe. The move comes as European automakers are being challenged by an influx of lower-cost EVs from Chinese rivals.

Supreme Court seeks US government views on Honolulu climate suit against oil companies
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday asked President Joe Biden's administration to offer its views on a bid by Sunoco and other oil companies to scuttle a lawsuit by Honolulu accusing them of deceiving the public about climate change. The request will delay a decision by the justices on whether to hear an appeal filed by the oil companies after Hawaii's top court let the suit proceed. Other defendants in the lawsuit, which alleges violations of state law, include Exxon Mobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, BHP Group, Marathon Petroleum, Chevron and Shell.

Oil Edges Higher But Bearish Sentiment Persists
Oil prices were edging higher on Monday despite a stronger U.S. dollar, but market sentiment remains broadly bearish. Brent crude and WTI were both up 0.4% at $79.95 and $75.83 a barrel, respectively. According to analysts at ING, speculators significantly reduced their net long positions on Brent last week, and now hold their smallest net long in the international oil benchmark since 2014.
