Cars burst into flames after deadly plane crash near Oregon airport, officials say

Medford Fire Department

Two people died and cars were engulfed in flames after a plane crashed into a parking lot near an Oregon airport, fire officials said.

The plane crashed into a parking lot near an airport car dealership Dec. 5, the Medford Fire Department said. The Airport Chevrolet dealership is a half-mile south of Rogue Valley International Medford Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot and a passenger on the plane died, according to a report. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

The pilot was identified as 69-year-old Donald Harbert Sefton and the passenger as 67-year-old Valorie Jean Serpa, both from Fallon, Nevada, according to The Oregonian.

Fire Chief Eric Thompson told KTVL the plane crashed minutes after it took off from the Medford airport.

“Upon arrival, we had at least 20 vehicles that were fully involved,” Thompson told the news station. “They just filled up with fuel. They had 128 gallons of fuel on board.”

No one on the ground was reported injured, KDRV reported.
