Yahoo Finance Canada Day: What's happening around the province
Celebrate Canada's 149th birthday in style. Here are some of the fun events going on around the province:
Fireworks and parade in Vancouver
The day begins with an inspiring citizenship ceremony to welcome the country's newest citizens, followed by a multitude of multicultural performances.
Great live entertainment featuring the likes of Aaron Pritchett and Sheena Easton will take the main stage.
There will also be Expo 86 exhibits, an armed forces display, street hockey and no shortage of food carts.
The festivities continue into the evening with the popular Canada Day Parade that runs run from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. PT, beginning at Georgia Street and Broughton Street, and ends with a fantastic display of fireworks at 10:30 p.m. in Burrard Inlet.
A big celebration in Surrey
Family fun for all ages, and it's free.
At the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Surrey you'll find midway games and rides, an expanded Kids Play area, over 100 exhibitors, live entertainment with musical headliners Tom Cochrane with Red Rider, and a spectacular fireworks show for the grand finale.
Classic cars and more in Fort St. John
Classic cars that have been lovingly restored take to the city's streets every Canada Day as part of the Classic Cruiser Show & Shine.
There is also a parade, and the annual pie sale organized by the North Peace Museum.
Music and food in Kelowna
More than 50 family-friendly activities are taking place in Kelowna's Waterfront Park, Jim Stuart Park, Kerry Park and Prospera Place to celebrate Canada's birthday.
Prospera Place will features a live orchestral concert, and Waterfront Park will feature the 'Taste of Canada' food fair with over 18 diverse vendors.
Suffragettes, skateboarding in Williams Lake
The City of Williams Lake is paying tribute to the Women's Suffrage movement with a historical march through town. At noon, women will gather in suffragette-era clothes at Boitanio Park. After the march, there will be a mock vote, where people can vote for the women they want to see on Canadian bills.
There will also be musical performances, a Farmers Market, and a 'skateboard and BMX bicycle jam' in the park.
Culture crawl, hamster balls in Smithers
Smithers' Canada Day celebrations will kick off with a pancake breakfast and will be followed by a 'culture crawl' in which a local historian will guide folks through a tour along the historic Main Street. The kids zone at Bovill Square will have giant hamster balls and much more.
Music by the beach in Ladysmith
If you're in Ladysmith, Transfer Beach is the spot to be on Canada Day. They'll have lots of family activities and plenty of live tunes as well. Sarah Sorgiovanni, Monica White and Aaron James and the Blackwater are among the artists tapped to perform.
