Burberry has pledged to become climate positive by 2040, becoming the first luxury brand to do so.
The label has committed to cutting emissions across its extended supply chain by 46 per cent by 2030, and to supporting others in improving their own carbon journeys.
The British brand also announced its support for the Fashion Avengers, a group of global fashion organisations that work together to inspire action to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Maco Gobbetti, chief executive officer at Burberry, explained: “Burberry was built upon a desire to explore nature and the great outdoors and they have remained our inspiration for more than 150 years.
“Drawing on this heritage of exploration and driven by our creative spirit, today we are setting a body new ambition: to become climate positive by 2040.
“As a company, we are united by our passion for being a force for good in the world. By strengthening our commitment to sustainability, we are going further in helping protect our planet for generations to come.”
The luxury label aims to create a zero-carbon future by investing in programmes that protect and restore our natural ecosystems, funding climate resilience projects to help vulnerable communities adapt to the changing world, and questioning what it will take to transform the fashion industry through partnerships and policies.
